There are quite a few people who feel they could predict the outcome of the following scenario: a young man from a broken home, lacking discipline and direction, quitting school before reaching graduation and later spending time in a juvenile facility. Far fewer people could recognize those events as what shaped one of Los Angeles’ premier general contractors. In the high-end residential marketplace, Gordon Gibson Constructions (GGC) is synonymous with a sophistication and quality that extends much farther than the actual construction itself, and its founder assures that each project carries with an approach to fine detail and workmanship.

Gibson, a North Hollywood native, began his career at the tender age of 17. After turbulent events lead him to leave school and examine what his life’s purpose and direction should be, he was steered into construction by an uncle. With his guidance, Gibson began work as a general laborer, doing little more than digging ditches, but began developing the principles of hard work, integrity, and ethics. Graduating to a carpentry apprenticeship, and later receiving a general contractor’s license, Gibson began work on L.A.’s Westside, erecting homes from Malibu to Santa Monica to prestigious Beverly Park.

Today, GGC is known as a leader on the Westside, recognized as much for its niche among the large custom-home marketplace as for its attention to detail. Gibson credits those initial lessons from his uncle as the values for which he bases his company, and approaches every job he undertakes with pride.
One of the real benefits GGC has to offer their client base is what Gibson refers to as “a stellar reputation for per-client attention.” Gibson prides himself on this reputation, noting that he is in every construction site, every day: “If I can’t get there every day, I don’t want to take the job.” This kind of personalized attention accounts not only for an ability to meet the needs of all the players present in a new home’s construction or remodeling, everyone from architects to designers to the clients themselves, but also lends the specific benefit of Gibson’s 40 years of experience.

The advantages of a hands-on contractor dedicated to all aspects of a home’s development, providing feedback as to improvements, knowledgeable as a tradesman, and concerned that a home comfortably fit a family’s lifestyle needs, seem endless. This is why Gibson believes he has been so successful; he recognizes the difficulty clients face when choosing a contractor and urges them to make note of a contractor’s time spent servicing and working in a community. He depends on recommendations from his clients to further his reputation and is mindful of the old adage, “One bad word can offset a thousand good ones.”

Heading into its 40th year GGC has a portfolio topping over 130 projects, including residences for actors Kelsey Grammer, recent Emmy award winner William H. Macy, and fashion legends Fred and Betty Hayman. Gibson hopes that in the coming years his principles of hard work and dedication to quality craftsmanship will continue to attract and exceed client expectations in the high-end home-building market.
